bring-the-noize

M.I.A. is back with a bang. The rebellious rapper debuts her boisterous new single, “Bring the Noize,” which pays tribute to Public Enemy’s 1987 song of the same name.

“Bring the noize when we run upon dem,” she raps on the drum-heavy record, produced by Switch and Surkin.

“It was written in lots of different circumstances, but I guess it’s coming out at a time where I think in America it’s kinda cool to hear something like this,” M.I.A. told Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. “It’s in keeping with what I released before, so I’m gonna gradually ease people into the new sound as the album goes on.”

Her fourth album Matangi is due this fall on N.E.E.T./Interscope.

“I’ve given up at this point,” she said of the oft-delayed project. “I was literally just kinda gonna start making records and putting them out from the bedroom straight on the Internet. This is my last stab at it.”

The video will premiere June 21 on Noisey.com, and she will perform three club dates leading up to the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago on July 21.
