If Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang has Lola Monroe and Lil Wayne’s Young Money has Nicki Minaj, Kanye West’s G.O.O.D MUSIC had to get Teyana Taylor on their team. Originally from Harlem, New York, she is a proficient dancer and incredible vocalist, songwriter and actress. In 2007, she appeared on MTV’s Super Sweet 16 show and right before the show aired, she signed a new contract with Star Trek/Interscope records. Her album, A Planet Called Harlem, contained single “Google Me.”  The record was never released for unknown reasons although “Google Me” peaked at number 90 on the Billboard charts.  Taylor was also a member of a band called U.G.L.Y with mates Mijo and Braxton and Ethan. The band’s single “Wasted” was released in 2010 but other releases have been mentioned since.

Besides being an impressive dancer, Taylor also has some acting skills as well. She landed the role as Bow Wow’s baby mother in the Tyler Perry’s movie Madea’s Big Happy Family and we all remember her famous line, “BYYYRRRROOOONNN!” She was in the movie Stomp The Yard 2: The Homecoming. She also appeared on an episode of House of Glam on the Oxygen channel. Teyana first met Kanye West while he was on his “Glow In The Dark” Tour with N.E.R.D and Rihanna and she struck up conversation with him along with befriending the GOOD MUSIC family. One day while in the studio with Kanye West, he was playing tracks for her to hear and she purposely hummed along to the tracks he played in hopes of being featured on a record.  Eventually, Kanye agreed and put Taylor on records “Dark Fantasy” & “Hell of a Life.”  Although she was nervous from being a bit “rusty” from the lack of being in the studio, West was pleased.  To end the 2010 year off, Taylor contributed to a GOOD MUSIC track entitled “Christmas in Harlem” featuring Kanye West and Cyhi The Prynce and was released to the iTunes store in December.

2012 would be the beginning of new great changes for Teyana.  In early 2012, she was released from her contract with Interscope records although she remained to have a professional relationship with her former business partner, Pharrell Williams. She gives him a lot of credit and thanks for the help of her blossoming career.  She began her mixtape, The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor to be released in the beginning of 2012. It features singles “Make Your Move” with Wale and “D.U.I” with Jadakiss and Fabolous. She draws from legendary and soulful artists like Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill. By June 2012, she agreed to sign with GOOD MUSIC and Island Def Jam Music Group. In perfect timing for the collaborative album Cruel Summer, she contributed a few hooks, choruses and a duet with singer John Legend. Erika Ramirez of Billboard said

“”Teyana Taylor’s beautifully brash voice … illuminates in the electric-guitar heavy, Hudson Mohawke-produced ‘Bliss’.”

Taylor is now currently working on her first studio album with her new label and enjoying being the First Lady of GOOD MUSIC. –Free @InkStains_
