Named, “A Different Kind of Diva” by Vogue Magazine, Miss Janelle Monae hails from Kansas City, Kansas and is now the fresh face has been signed with Bad Boy Records for the past 6 years. Her Grammy nominated EP Metropolis, Suite 1: The Chase created her a buzz with wild and imaginative styles of individuality. Her uniqueness colors outside the lines and her fashion forward look is unmatched. From several different types of tuxes, to colors and bowties, she finds her happy medium while showing her slim figure and remaining feminine. Monae speaks on her style of dress saying,
“I feel like I have a responsibility to my community and other young girls to help redefine what it looks like to be a woman. I don’t believe in men’s wear or women’s wear, I just like what I like. And I think we should just be respected for being an individual…. I’ve been in Vogue, now, and different publications, which is cool, because I think that it just shows a different perspective of how women can dress.”
She a wild performer who has fun on the stage so it’s no doubt that she tears up the studio as well. Many things are the muse to her existence. She finds inspiration from many different times and places she has traveled to. Monae has also stated that Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz has been a big musical influence in her life. She moved to New York City to study Drama at American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Monae definitely embodies a full package and Diddy noticed that on the spot right before he signed her.
The singer and songwriter is rereleasing a new version of her first full length LP The ArchAndroid that includes notes of 60s Pop and Jazz. Also, The Electric Lady LP will be released this year. Monae does not try to be different, she simply is being herself. Covering Jones Magazine recently, her look is extremely timeless. The mysterious sounds on this album are also inspired by the tour overseas she has been on with artists like Erykah Badu, No Doubt and Paramore. In August 2012, she was named spokesperson of CoverGirl cosmetics. So very well-rounded, Monae states about her new coming project,
“Musically, TheArchAndroid is like an epic James Bond film in out space.”
That there should introduce you into Janelle’s world. Her choice of words is rare and yet sophisticated. The first single is “Tightrope” features Big Boi of Outkast. The songs tell about her undeniable commitment to her love of music. She listened to her heart and had fun with this project. Monae allows her inner child to connect with her adult self to provide the contrast of modern youth with a twist. After this project she plans to release a deluxe graphic novel version of the album titled Red Book, as well as Dance or Die, an 18 chapter music video collection.
