Mystery has surrounded the tragic passing of Whitney Houston. Now the L.A. County coroner’s office has determined the official cause of the singer’s death.

A toxicology report released today concluded that Houston died from accidental drowning. She was also found to have cocaine in her system at the time of death. Other contributing factors included heart disease and cocaine use, according to an investigation.

The report adds that

“cocaine and metabolites were identified and were contributory to the death. Marijuana, Alprazolam (Xanax), Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) and Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) were identified but did not contribute to the death.”

Houston was found unresponsive in the bathtub of her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton on February 11, hours before Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party. She was 48 years old.

Investigators found no evidence of cocaine in the room. Prescription pill bottles were discovered, but the amount of pills was “not in alarming amounts.”

Patricia Houston, who was Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, released the following statement:

“We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure.”
