Hit music producer Pharrell Williams recently launched a new website aimed at keeping the youth educated on current world news called kidult.com. The site which specifically targets teens will cover topics such as politics, technology, science, business, and environmental issues.

While talking to US Magazine about the site, Pharrell said:

“Kidult is a reliable news source that speaks directly to teenagers. It also gives them a chance to get involved and speak to other young people about issues they care about. Kidult is the site I wish I had when I was in high school.”

The writing staff behind the site includes a group of young writers who so far have gotten to interview the likes of teen celebrities Justin Bieber and Miranda Cosgrove, along with music producer Will.I.Am, amongst others.

In an interview posted on the Kidult site, Pharrell revealed the inspiration behind the website and said that with the website he hopes to expand the minds of the youth and spark their curiosity about things outside of their norm.

“Other than the simple fact of being informative, I want Kidult to inspire kids to dream in ways they never thought possible,” he said.

“No kid should ever have to jump through hula hoops and obstacles to find things out. When you don’t even know that you’re interested in something — that’s the biggest crime of all. I hate the idea that a kid might not know if they like something because they have been exposed to it. Every child should know what Australia air smells like, what African soil feels like, and what Chinese spices taste like. If they’re not curious to try and find out, we’re doing an extreme disservice to our children. It’s our responsibility to really engage them and peak their interests in every way imaginable.”
