Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, 25, shot and killed his girlfriend and mother of his daughter, Kasandra Perkins, 22, at their home in Independence, Mo., following an argument they had over a Trey Songz concerton Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012. He drove five miles in his Bentley to Arrowhead Stadium, where he thanked his general manager, Scott Pioli, and coach, Romeo Crennel, before fatally shooting himself.
Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepherd, reportedly made the call to paramedics that Perkins had been shot multiple times. Perkins was rushed to the University of Kansas hospital where she was pronounced dead. Shepherd was in town helping the couple with their infant daughter, Zoey, who was born on Sept. 11, 2012.
Various sources have said the couple was having problems due to Belcher’s daily drinking and taking painkillers, and a head injury he sustained in a recent game. The couple reportedly argued often and had recently reconciled just before Thanksgiving.
It is also reported that Shepherd will raise their daughter in Long Island, N.Y. His teammates are planning to establish a foundation for the baby.
Pictures are worth a thousand words. Here, we’ve gathered photos from Instagram and Facebook of the late couple and their adorable daughter.
Investigators, family, friends and the Kansas City Chiefs are still baffled by Jovan Belcher’s murder of his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins and his suicide that occurred on Dec. 1.
According to recent reports from a family friend, Belcher and Perkins got into an argument after Perkins returned home late from a Trey Songz concert in Kansas City. After Belcher killed Perkins, he visited the Chiefs facility and killed himself in front of the GM and coach Romeo Crennel.
The Chiefs defeated the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in an emotional game that left players and coaches physically and emotionally drained.
Trey Songz discovered that Perkins was murdered after attending his concert in Kansas City and reacted on Twitter.
Trey Songz responds:
I don’t delete tweets, nor am I insensitive to death. I had no knowledge of the murder/suicide incident until now & even still…
As sad as it may be, it has nothing to do with me. Sending prayers up to the families and friends of the people involved
