During the 90s, the boogie down Bronx born and CEO of Terror Squad Entertainment rapper Fat Joe had to represent his talents along with his ethnic roots of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent. Latin rappers were somewhat scarce in the Hip hop scene at that time and it took stand out artists like Fat Joe and fellow rapper Big Punisher who made it big to pave the way for more to come. He put out his first album in 1993 called Represent followed by Jealous Ones Envy in 1995. He was signed to Atlantic Records from 1998 to 2006 and released four albums in that time. For a brief moment, he encountered a feud with another New York rapper, 50 cent. 50 cent created a diss record on his song, “Piggy Bank,” from his 2005 album The Massacre that was highly publicized and included foul remarks about Fat Joe. The feud didn’t last long at all. There weren’t many words exchanged and Fat Joe continued to work and give his all. From 2006 and beyond, he was signed to Imperial Records; a label that distributed through Terror Squad Entertainment and Fat Joe released four more albums with them thus far. He put out albums Me, Myself & I, Elephant In The Room, Jealous Ones Still Envy 2 (J.O.S.E) and The Darkside Vol. 1. His claim to fame were hit singles like “What’s Luv” featuring Ashanti, “Lean Back” with Remy Ma and “Make It Rain” with Lil Wayne.

Fat Joe’s weight held him back from some opportunities. He weighed over 300 pounds and growing older, he realized that being more health conscious would mean he could see more out of life. After the death of Big Pun because of obesity, Joe realized that his weight was a problem that needed immediate fixing. In present day, he has a wife and takes care of three children. He has lost almost 100 pounds and is leading a healthier lifestyle. As a charitable man, he has also given back to his community.  He goes back to his old neighborhood and provides computers for children to have those extra needed resources. Along with music, has also spent a bit of time on the big screen as actor. He starred in the comedic film, Scary Movie 3 and does a voice over character in the child’s animated film Happy Feet. Also, he is a featured act on MTV2’s Hip Hop Squares among other celebrities like Common, DJ Khaled, comedians, television hosts and reality show personalities.

Taking a break from the music scene, he made his most recent comeback with the popular single “Another Round” with singer Chris Brown that was available on iTunes in October 2011. It has gotten extreme radio airplay throughout early 2012. He is currently working on his eleventh studio album that is yet to be named. There can be much expected in the new year from Fat Joe. Music is no stranger to the artist so it can’t necessarily be called a comeback. -Free @InkStains_
