Earlier this week, Drake debuted a new song called “Trophies” during his “Would You Like a Tour?” stop at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. But why didn’t it make his album Nothing Was the Same? Revolt TV caught up with the rapper to find out.

“I wouldn’t even call it a leftover. It was definitely on the album,” Drake said of the Hit-Boy-produced song. “I’m not a just-throw-it-together-kinda guy.”

He had recorded two hooks for the song, but didn’t like either. So he started sending it out, but still wasn’t satisfied with the results.

“As great of a job as other people did, it didn’t sound right if I wasn’t on the hook,” he said. “I always want to do my own hooks for the sake of my performances.”

While he is currently on tour, he is itching to get back in the studio.

He plans to finish “Trophies” and drop it along with more unreleased material including music from the posthumous Aaliyah album, a song with YG, and the remix to “Wu-Tang Forever.”

“I got a lot of records that aren’t out yet,” he teased.
