Nicki Minaj has another plaque to add to her wall.
The rap Queen‘s single “Chun-Li” has officially been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America after moving 500,000 units.
In an Instagram caption, a grateful Nicki thanked her team and fans for their support. “Chun-Li has been certified GOLD. Thank you to everyone for your support,” she said.
She went on to explain the origin of the song.
“got on the mic & made this song up in 5 mins just having fun @ 4 in the morning,” she wrote. “Then took about an hour to put words to the melody. Released it 2 days later. We captured it all on video.”
The footage may appear in her upcoming documentary.
“Thinking about putting that part of the documentary out early so you guys can get a real glimpse into my world. Love you so much & can’t wait to share this album with all of you who’ve waited so patiently & been so supportive.”
“Chun-Li,” along with “Barbie Tingz,” was released on April 12, and peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also marked Nicki’s 16th top 10 hit.
Nicki is now gearing up to release her fourth album Queen, which has a new release date of Aug. 10.
“Trust me, it’s the better choice,” she told fans of the delay. “I’m so excited. This album is so fucking incredible and it’s because I can’t give ya’ll half-ass. I refuse to.”
