In the midst of their fallout, a new report claims that Kanye West was supposed to appear on Drake’s chart-topping hit “Nice for What.”
In March, Drake reportedly joined Kanye in Wyoming for a recording session. Now, Hot 97’s Ebro Darden claims (via Complex) that the sessions didn’t go as planned.
“I’m told when [Drake] left Wyoming or wherever, he started calling around looking for beats,” said Ebro. “He was calling people looking for beats like, ‘Yo, I need some records.’”
Producers were reportedly confused by Drake’s request since he had seemingly been in the studio with Kanye.
Ebro went on to say that Kanye recorded a version of “Nice for What,” which is currently the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Supposedly, Kanye was supposed to be on ‘Nice for What’ or there’s a version of ‘Nice for What’ with Kanye that we may never hear,” he said.
The chance of it being released seems even more unlikely give recent developments. Last week, Drake dropped his Pusha-T diss track “Duppy Freestyle,” on which he takes shots at ‘Ye.
“So if you rebuke me for working with someone else on a couple of Vs, what do you really think of the ni**a that’s making your beats?” he raps. “I’ve done things for him I thought that he never would need / Father had to stretch his hands out and get it from me.”
