Young Thug’s Barter 7 is allegedly being held up over issues with Lil Wayne.
Thugger claims that Weezy is threatening to sue him if he releases the long-awaited project. During an Instagram Live session on Friday (Jan. 25), Thug’s girlfriend Jerrika Karlae made the revelation.
In the clip, Jerrika films Thug as he looks into his phone while fielding questions from fans. Many of them were questioning Thug over the status of Barter 7. After ignoring multiple questions, he finally responds,
“Lil Wayne trying to sue me for that.”
Barter 7 marks the follow-up to Barter 6, which was released in April 2015. Thug initially wanted to call the album Carter 6, but had to change the name after he was threatened with a lawsuit.
Prior to Barter 6, Wayne had announced plans to retire and Thug wanted to carry the torch.
“I just feel like I’m that big,” he told DJ Whoo Kid. “‘Cause [Wayne] feel like after Tha Carter V, he ain’t gon’ make no more music ’cause he feel like can’t nobody make no music like that.”
There has been friction between the rappers in the past. In September, Thug and Birdman were under criminal investigation for allegedly plotting to shoot up Wayne’s tour bus following a 2015 nightclub performance in Atlanta.
Barter 7 will mark Thug’s first release since September’s On the Rvn EP.
