Ne-Yo is backing a campaign by Macys called Respect! that calls for a stop to domestic violence, and promotes respect between the two people in a relationship. He’s also debuted a new track entitled “Heroes,” and the proceeds go straight to the charity.
Ne-Yo debuted the song and spoke to a crowd in New York City today, and addressed the violence between his fellow artists.
“What happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna was unacceptable, and we need to all work together and make sure it never happens again, to anyone,” he said. “Respect is the foundation of positive relationships. There’s often too much violence around us – and we need to focus on and celebrate those behaviors that inspire healthy interactions. I hope this song brings visibility to the issue and encourages all of us to be heroes to others.”This is a far cry from what Ne-Yo said following the attack. At the time, he’d said to MTV that Rihanna was “fine” and when it came to Chris, “That’s still my homeboy at the end of the day.”
