The family of a 17 year old Florida teen who was shot to death in his gated community are demanding the arrest of the neighborhood watch captain who killed him.

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed after he left his home to walk to a convenience store to get some snacks for he and his 13 year old brother Chad, the family’s attorney said.

“He was a good kid,” Crump said in an interview, “On his way home, a Neighborhood Watch loose cannon shot and killed him.”

Trayvon, who lived in Miami with his mother, was visiting his father in a gated townhome community not far from Orlando. As Trayvon returned home, police received a call from Neighborhood Watch captain, Zimmerman, reporting a suspicious person in the community.

Instead of waiting for police to arrive,  Zimmerman confronted Trayvon, who was on the sidewalk near his home. By the time police got there, Trayvon was dead of a single gunshot to the chest. He’d been murdered by Zimmerman who claimed that he shot the teen in self defense.

“What do the police find in his pocket? Skittles,” Crump said. “A can of Arizona ice tea in his jacket pocket and Skittles in his front pocket for his brother Chad.”

Even though Zimmerman was armed and the victim was unarmed, and even though Zimmerman had no business accosting the victim in the first place, he has not been charged with a crime.
