Drake has been co-signed by nearly every heavyweight in the game and been compared to a number of the greats, so it came as no surprise when Raekwon sang the praises of the rap newcomer. But the Wu member took things a bit further and called Drake “the male version of Lauryn Hill.”
“This kid [Drake] is a phenomenon. He’s like a young pharaoh with a great talent. I call him the male version of Lauryn Hill,” said Rae during an interview with VIBE.
“He can go this way or that way. I heard him mentioning the Wu in one of his new songs. So I know he understands the music. And he’s a humble kid. I think that’s what’s going to take him real far.”
Rae also talked highly of several others in the game including Diddy, who he called “the Donald Trump of rap,” Busta Rhymes, Andre 3000 and Snoop, whom he credited for not taking “himself too seriously because he knows it’s not always about being hard.”
“Busta Rhymes is the most energetic MC to ever hold a mic,” said Rae. “Three Stacks is a combination of many different things. He reminds me of a Jimi Hendrix, a RZA with super lyrical skills. You can’t really define this dude. At the end of the day he’s just a bad motherf*cker. He’s a walking gem.”
In other news, Busta Rhymes is scheduled to release his ninth solo album, Extinction.Level.Event 2, later this year and Andre has popped up on a track with the other half of Outkast, Big Boi, and on the remix to Ciara’s single Ride
