Oprah Winfrey’s generosity never seems to quit. The talk show queen just donated $1.5 million to a private school in the inner city of Atlanta.
She said in a statement, “I hope my gift will inspire others to join in to support RCA, a place that’s not only uplifting students but also training teachers across the globe how to do the same for their students.”
The Ron Clark Academy announced the donation Thursday. “We work so hard to provide scholarships for students of all academic backgrounds and to share our successful teaching methods with the world,” co-founder Kim Beardon said. “We are incredibly thankful for Ms. Winfrey’s support.”
The school in one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods is hoping to expand its campus by building a cafeteria, gymnasium and theater for its students. RCA has struggled to raise money this year due to the economy to pay for its $2.8 million operating budget, which is bankrolled mostly by donors.
Oprah definitely has a soft spot for this particular school—she has even had school founder Ron Clark on her show twice. She also donated $365,000 to the school last December. You may remember these kids as the group that sang the infamous YouTube hit prior to the election last year entitled, “You Can Vote However You Like.”
