The best, creepiest part of The Perfect Guy trailer, which premiered on USATODAY Wednesday, was the last scene.

It’s Sanaa Lathan’s character lying down on her bed, completely unaware that her ex-boyfriend-from-you-know-where (Ealy) is under the bed waiting for her.

Even Ealy was disturbed shooting the scene, telling USA TODAY:

“I was creeped out by that moment. That was awful for me. It was like, this is not voyeuristic, it’s not sexy. This is just (bleeping) awful. Just awful.”

But Ealy knows the impact the scene will have on The Perfect Guy audiences for the thriller opening on Sept. 11.

“If anything it provokes a fear in the audience. It’s like, is he going to kill her right now?  That’s why it’s such an interesting thriller. Who is going to go home after the movie and not check under the bed after that scene? Just in case. Everyone checks under the bed.

Ealy admits even he takes movie scenes seriously afterwards, just like watching the 1992 horror film Candyman where the baddie was summoned with a chant in the dark.

Says Ealy:

“I still won’t look at a mirror and say, ‘CandyMan’ three times. I won’t do it. Just on the off-chance. You know what I mean. I’m cool.”

Ealy says his wife of two years, Khatira Rafiqzada, likes seeing him play this kind of “subversive” character onscreen. And he has no problem telling his own reality once the cameras stop rolling.

“The hard part is de-toxing and coming back into the real world. I am not this guy, this is not who I am. I don’t have these control issues. Guys like that do not have that compass that allows them to straighten themselves out.”

But he does admit there are a few types like that in Hollywood.

“There’s a lot of sociopaths out there. And the problem is, the sociopaths in Hollywood present themselves in a certain Hollywood way. They sweep you off your feet. It’s like they are too good to be true. It’s about control. It’s about getting you to fall deeply in love with them and then they have you. And then they can do with you what they want to do with you.”
