We first caught a glimpse of Marvel’s upcoming “Captain America: The First Avenger” during this year’s Super Bowl. But it was only a 30 second teaser and didn’t give us much. Still, we were kind of stoked.

Today, a full-length trailer has made its debut on the web and boy, does it deliver. From “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”-like CGI effects to blockbuster action to rich, period detail from World War II, the film looks like it’s going to be a wild ride.

Based on the Marvel Comics character, the action film centers on Steve Rogers (Chris Evans, who we last saw in “The Losers”), a man deemed too unfit for duty in the U.S. Army. As a result, he volunteers for Project: Rebirth, a secret military operation and is physically transformed into a super-soldier dubbed Captain America.

With sidekick Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), he goes head-to-head with the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Hitler’s treacherous head of advanced weaponry, whose plan for world domination involves a magical object known as the Tesseract.

The patriotic hero first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941), via Timely Comics, a predecessor to Marvel Comics. He was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby and through the years sold roughly 210 million comics in 75 countries.

It’s scheduled for release on July 22.
