Fresh off the release of his album FWA, Lil Wayne called into Wild Wayne on New Orleans’ Q93 to announce the first-ever Lil Weezyana Fest.
The Young Money chief revealed that he will reunite with his former group the Hot Boys for the first time in over 10 years at the concert on Aug. 28. All proceeds will be donated to his hometown.
“I want it to become something that I do every year,” said Weezy.
He also shared his thoughts on Young Thug and reminisced about signing Drake and Nicki Minaj to Young Money.
But he was unable to speak about his ongoing legal battle with Cash Money and Birdman.
“I can’t get into it, but God bless ’em though.”
ON YOUNG THUG: “When Slime came out and said I’m naming my album [Carter 6], I had to be some kind of monster to just overlook that. I’m not that type of person. My mama didn’t raise me [that way]. If he said it’s from the heart and he said that he’s some kind of fan, then I love him. Thank you, bro. I appreciate everything about it if he’s a fan.”
ON NICKI MINAJ: “It wasn’t that we was looking for [a female rapper], it was just that she was impossible to pass up.”
ON DRAKE: “When I heard Drizzy, I was like, I don’t know. What I mean by that was the music was so honest. We as listeners, we weren’t used to that yet. … The moment I heard him sing, I was like, ‘So who’s that on this part? That’s the guy that’s rapping?’ … I was like, ‘OK, print him up a contract. Let’s go!’”
