As we all know, LeBron James(notes) filed papers to change his number from 23 to 6 back when he was still in Cleveland. But now that he’s switched teams, that’s irrelevant. However, judging by what the NBA’s online store is offering, James will be wearing 6 when he joins the Heat this fall.

James’ number choice has been confirmed by the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman. The number used to belong to Mario Chalmers(notes), but as Winderman reports, he wanted to switch to 15 which he wore at Kansas anyways, so everything is coming up LeBron, as usual. Personally, I can’t believe Miami never retired the number for Eddie Jones(notes) and his well-manicured mustache. Nonetheless, James wearing 6 avoids the awkward scenario of him trying to wear 23 in Miami, which has been retired for Michael Jordan because he is so awesome at basketball.

As for Chris Bosh(notes), double zero isn’t happening. CNBC’s Darren Rovell reported that the former Toronto big man/mascot doppelganger will be wearing No. 1 in Miami, joining such legends as Travis Best, Rod Strickland and Loren Woods(notes), and taking the number from outgoing swingman Dorell Wright(notes). Wearing 1 is a good choice for Bosh. Not only will it help him look even skinnier, it’ll also help him avoid living in the shadow of Tony Delk, who wore No. 00 that one time he scored 53 points.
