From the streets of Compton to the cover of GQ, it’s been a hell of a year for Kendrick Lamar. One year after releasing his breakthrough debut good kid, m.A.A.d city, the TDE rapper claims his throne on the cover of the magazine’s “Men of the Year” issue.

King Kendrick was named “Rapper of the Year” by the editors of GQ. Previous “Men of the Year” have included Jay Z and Drake.

In the issue (via Complex), K-Dot discusses his “Control” verse and relationship with Drake.

When asked if there’s any beef, he said they remain

“pretty cool,” adding, “I mean, I would be OK if we weren’t.”

Following the VMAs, Kendrick attended Diddy’s after-party, just weeks after “Control” dropped.

“I only go when there’s a point,” he said. “Usually the point is just ni**as drinking. But walking through the club the week after I released the ‘Control’ verse? That’s a point!”

The December 2013 issue of GQ hits newsstands this week.
