President Obama had, like, the best week ever! On the eve of his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance, Indonesians honored the prez by erecting a life-size statue of him as a 10-year old boy. Obama lived in the capital, Jakarta, for four years in the 1960’s.
The bronze statue shows a young “Barry” Obama in school shorts, smiling and holding a butterfly in his hands. The $10,000 cost of the statue was covered by private Indonesian donors and a local TV station.
It is in a park near one of the Indonesian schools Obama attended as a child. “I’m proud because he used to study in Indonesia, and now he’s the 44th president of America,” said Hendrawan, a sixth-grader who wants to be a lawyer.
