On the day of his funeral, XXXTentacion’s team drops the video for his hit single “SAD!”, which jumped to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The late rapper attends his own funeral in the haunting clip, which he wrote and creative directed himself.
As mourners sit in the aisles, Jahseh Onfroy walks up to the open casket, where his dead body lays. Suddenly, the body jumps out of the casket and starts fighting X.
He then meets with a dark shrouded undertaker figure, who tells him to change and spread love into the world.
“The world is in need of change,” he says. “Humans must learn to love and compromise rather than destroy.”
The visual is an apparent nod to X’s attempt to turn around his life around by killing off his old self. X was accused of domestic violence and was awaiting trial at the time of his death.
“You have done well at battling yourself,” says the undertaker.
A handwritten note at the end alludes to his battle to change for the better. “People change, things change, and so did I,” reads one note.
“SAD!”, which appears on X’s latest album ?, posthumously topped the Billboard Hot 100 this week. X becomes the first artist to top the Hot 100 posthumously in a lead role since The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money Mo Problems” in 1997.
Just yesterday, thousands of friends, family, and fans gathered at an open-casket memorial to pay tribute to the 20-year-old rapper, who was shot and killed in an apparent robbery.
