Solange celebrated the release of her EP True at a listening session at Sonos Studio in Los Angeles on Tuesday. After playing the 7-track album, the 26-year-old singer and her collaborator Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) sat down for a Q&A moderated by Los Angeles Times writer Gerrick Kennedy.
She spoke about how the collaboration came together, the recording process, and what she learned along the way, and was joined by her friends including Kelly Rowland, director Melina, and The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer, and Jorma Taccone.
The EP has been receiving praise from critics. Pitchfork awarded it a 7.8/10, writing,
“True marks the sound of a singer hitting a graceful stride, in her own time and on her own terms.”
