Just when you thought Lady Gaga had run out of ideas, the fashion chameleon reinvents herself. The “Born This Way” singer strutted down the purple carpet in platform heels, a turquoise wig, and a black Thierry Mugler creation at the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards at New York’s Lincoln Center. Her sister Natali Germanotta was by her side as she was honored with the prestigious Fashion Icon Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Gaga’s fellow style guru Kanye West kept it cool in a white blazer with faded denim jeans and loafers without socks. After confessing to being the “biggest fan of everyone in this room,” he presented the International Style Award to Céline designer Phoebe Philo, calling her a “special, special force in fashion.”

Afterward Yeezy, repping for his hometown with a Chicago Bulls cap, partied with fashion’s elite at the post-party, where he rubbed elbows with models Chanel Iman and Karolina Kurkova as well as actor Gerard Butler.
