Major key alert. As Toronto gears up for this weekend’s NBA All-Star festivities, T-Dot’s Mayor John Tory has announced that Drake will receive the Key to the City on Friday (Feb. 12), according to CP24.

“Drake is Toronto’s biggest champion: in his music, his mentorship of local talent, and his presence on the world stage,” Tory said in a statement. “He makes people feel good about themselves and their city, and he has drawn the eyes of the world to Toronto. He deserves our city’s recognition and our pride and I’m honored to give him the Key to the City.”

Tory will likely present the key to the Raptors’ Global Ambassador during the All-Star Celebrity Game, which Drake is scheduled to coach.

Nelson Mandela, Celine Dion, The Rolling Stones, Tiger Woods, and Muhammad Ali have also previously received a Key to the City of Toronto.

Drake isn’t the only rapper getting a Key to the City in his hometown this weekend. Kendrick Lamar is set to receive a key to Compton on Saturday (Feb. 13). Just last week, Solange received the key to New Orleans during Mardi Gras.
