Drake has postponed a series of European tour dates so he can be by his mother’s side as she recovers from a difficult surgery.
Following Sunday’s BET Awards, the rapper flew from California to Toronto to support his mother, who underwent surgery on Wednesday. “Back at my moms house…please include her in your prayers tonight as tmrw she faces a true challenge,” he tweeted on Tuesday night.
“Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated,” he said in a statement. “In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel my European tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years. I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy during this time.”
The European leg of Drake’s “Away From Home Tour” had been scheduled to kick off at Norway’s Hove Festival on Friday and travel to Paris, Amsterdam, London, Belgium, and more. It will be rescheduled for November.
The 23-year-old hip-hop star still plans to tour throughout his home country of Canada beginning July 16.
