During a recent interview with XXL, Young Money rapper Drake made a few statements about DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz series that he fears can be misconstrued.
When asked about whether or not he had any plans to put out a put out a Gangsta Grillz compilation, he told the magazine: “I just find that boring, you know…People might want to hear it, but it’s just not something that I really want to give you. I’d rather just give you something that lasts a little longer than that because those mixtapes never really last much longer than six months.”
That statement would lead many to believe that Drake was taking a jab at Drama and the Gangsta Grillz series, so he released another statement to clear up the confusion and explain his comment.
“In no way did I intend to discredit the Gangsta Grillz brand,” Drizzle said. “I have listened to many of Drama’s mixtapes and will continue to do so for years to come. I do prefer to listen to original content over freestyles because I like to hear how different artists put together an entire song from lyrics to hooks to beat selections. I just personally don’t feel I could carry an entire mixtape on other people’s beats and that was the only point I was attempting to get across.”
Drake will release his highly anticipated debut album, Thank Me Later, on June 15. The LP will feature collaborations with Jay-Z, Eminem, and Kanye West, amongst others. Over, the first single from the project was released last month, and the music video for his second single, Find Your Love, was released last night on his blog.
