Ahead of the upcoming Hurricane Relief telethon, Beyoncé returned to Houston on Friday (Sept. 8), where she honored Hurricane Harvey survivors in her hometown.
“This, today, is a celebration of survival,” said Bey, who appeared at St. John’s United Methodist Church. “Y’all are my family. Houston is my home. I thank God that y’all are safe, that your children are safe…I just want to say that I love you.”
This was a special homecoming for Queen Bey, who sang her first song at the church, where she was accompanied by her mother, Tina Lawson, daughter Blue Ivy, and Destiny’s Child groupmate Michelle Williams. She took photos with the families and met up with H-town’s own Trae Tha Truth in the Third Ward.
Beyoncé has been active in her role as an ambassador for Houston following Hurricane Harvey, which devastated the region, leaving at least 70 people dead. Next week, Queen Bey will headline the Bun B and Scooter Braun-organized hurricane relief telethon, which will air Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET across the major networks.
