Meek Mill came to win. Seven months since his release from prison, the Philly rapper makes a triumphant return with his new album Championships.
And he brought an all-star team with him. On his first album since 2017’s Wins & Losses, Meek is joined by Cardi B (“On Me”), Ella Mai (“24/7”), Future and Young Thug (“Splash Warning”), 21 Savage (“Pay You Back”), and Kodak Black (“Tic Tac Toe”). He tackles prison reform on the JAY-Z and Rick Ross-assisted “What’s Free,” which flips The Notorious B.I.G. classic “What’s Beef.”
But the most anticipated track may be “Going Bad” with Drake, which marks their first collaboration since squashing their highly-publicized beef.
“I feel like I’m at a championship stage in my life, where I call it beating poverty, beating racism, beating the system, beating gun violence, beating the streets,” Meek told Ebro on Beats 1. “Once I made it through all that, I feel like I’m at a winning stage in my life.”
To celebrate the album, Meek will head out on “The Motivation Tour.” The 16-city U.S. trek kicks off Feb. 19 in Miami and travels to L.A., Chicago, New York, and his hometown of Philadelphia, before wrapping March 24 in Atlanta.
