Kanye West does it again. After wowing fans at Madison Square Garden for Yeezy Season 3, his Season 4 show premiered today, kicking off New York Fashion Week with yet another grand display.
Overlooking New York, surrounded by greens, and backed by regal strings, Season 4 proved to be another extravagant, stylish, and momentous event, held at the Smallpox Hospital on Roosevelt Island in Manhattan.
The Vanessa Beecroft performance, presented by adidas, was also star-studded. Chanel Iman and Teyana Taylor both appeared on the cat walk, the latter continuing an impressive hot streak following her stunning “Fade” music video performance. Elsewhere, Justin Bieber’s rumored girlfriend Sofia Richie, daughter of Lionel Richie, made her runway debut.
A smiling Kanye also popped up at the end of the show. Bowing to his audience, strutting down the walkway in all black, ‘Ye suddenly began running in the opposite direction. He would not appear onscreen again.
Prior to the show,
‘Ye was criticized for a casting call that asked specifically for “multiracial women only,” a critique he discussed with Vogue before the show. “How do you word the idea that you want all variations of black?” he said. “How do you word that exactly?”
On Wednesday, that vision came to fruition, as women of various shades walked and stood on grass, wearing Yeezy’s latest creations, a mixture of sportswear, under garments, dresses, boots, and high heels that ranged in shades from black to brown to white.
If there was one major hinderance at the show, it was the heat. Models standing on the grass were handed water to avoid dehydration. Others sat down mid-show. There were even reports that some models may have fainted due to heat exhaustion.
Another hiccup in the show came when model Amina Blue nearly fell. It wasn’t heat exhaustion that almost did her in though, it was heel exhaustion. The model took her shoes off and closed out the show in shower slides.

So, how did this extravaganza end? Aerial shots of New York launched the show and aerial shots of the city closed it out.
But that might not be all for Kanye today. G.O.O.D. Music just announced an impromptu show at the Highline Ballroom this evening, featuring Travis Scott, Migos, Desiigner, Pusha T, and Tyga. Although Kanye isn’t on the bill, he just performed back-to-back shows as part of his “Saint Pablo Tour” in New York and could very well show up as a surprise.
