Lil Wayne takes a look in the “Mirror” on his self-reflective collaboration with Bruno Mars, one of three tracks off the deluxe edition of Tha Carter IV, available Monday. The fedora-clad singer sticks to the formula that proved successful on Eminem and Royce Da 5’9’s top 5 hit “Lighters,” providing a soulful hook over a somber melody.
Weezy gets personal with his bars, rapping about his father (“Lookin’ at me now I can see my past/ Damn, I look just like my fu**in’ dad”), while taking inspiration from the King of Pop.
“And no message could have been any clearer, so I’m starting with the man in the mirror,” he says. “MJ taught me that.”
