The G-Unit General 50 Cent has some doubt about Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter 4′ album selling near 1 million copies in its first week.

Lil Wayne seems to be the talk of the town once again within the hip hop community. With his recently released Tha Carter IV album selling nearly 1 million copies in just its first week on retail shelves and digital downloads, many industry veterans including several rappers and media outlets challenged the claims.

The latest hip hop associate to drop his two pennies on the topic is none other than rapper turned business mogul Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson. 50 Cent has been extremely busy over recent weeks, working hard to promote his new Street King Energy Drink Shots and promoting his new book entitled Playground. In the midst of all this, 50 Cent made a comment about the album sales figures of Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter 4.

“To be honest with you, the Lil Wayne sales are a little suspect to me. Because it was trending 600,000 pieces that week. And they didn’t do a million copies, it was like 900,000.”

Just to clarify, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter 4 album did manage to official sell 964,000 units in just its first week, crossing the Platinum mark with ease during its second week. The questions do have merit considering the current state of record sales, but Birdman denied any type of scheme involving Young Money buying Lil Wayne’s albums in bulk to prove a point. The point being the fact that Birdman guaranteed that Lil Wayne’s album would sell a million copies in its first week, regardless of what critics had to say.

During the same interview though, 50 Cent did credit Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter 3 album stating,

“Tha Carter III was definitely hot. He did that. Tha Carter III commanded that energy, but the last one that just came out, those numbers are funny.”

The Carter III sold over a million copies within its first week of release as well. 50 Cent has quite the track record with album sales as well, his 2003 studio debut ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’ made a stellar debut, selling 872,000 copies in its first week.
