In an interview for Rolling Stones Brazil, 50 Cent revealed that he will not release what was supposed to be his upcoming album Black Magic. The G-Unit leader admitted that, while being on world tour with Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, he was inspired and influenced by so many styles and different events that he found himself writing songs that were not going to fit the original Black Magic concept.
Fif explained the shift by pointing out that, “Black Magic had a different style to it, a different vibe. I was playing with different song structures, music from different genres like Rock music. The way Rock music allows the energy to decrease and then comeback to high energy. I was getting music that had that kind of vibe to it. I did some things that were a little dance inspired, the tempo was higher. Just playing with a lot of things.”
In order to fully clarify why he will not be releasing Black Magic, he compares his decision to Eminem’s Recovery album.
“To give you an example, Eminem’s Recovery album. He had Relapse and Relapse 2 and I recorded for him on part two but because I was on tour with him during Recovery, we didn’t get a chance to work together on that album but he re-wrote the album.”
The interview goes on with 50 Cent talking about his role in the movie Things Fall Apart. He took a moment to remember other famous rappers turned actors such as Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube and LL Cool J. Fif went on by explaining that the rivalry between East Coast and West Coast is over and that nowadays is all a matter of personal competition between high-profile rappers.
50 concludes the interview with talking about his G-Unit members and future plans, which include discovering new talents and giving young rappers an opportunity to shine.
