Young Thug is set to go home.
Following a non-negotiated plea deal on Thursday, the Atlanta rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, received a 40-year sentence from Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker. The sentence includes five years in prison, commuted to time served, 15 years on probation, and a conditional “backloaded” 20-year term that he would only serve if he violates probation. Prior to sentencing, Thug pleaded guilty to six of eight charges in his widely publicized RICO trial, where he and several YSL associates faced racketeering and gang-related charges.

Thug entered a no-contest plea on charges of racketeering conspiracy and leading a street gang.
Initially facing up to 120 years in prison, Thug took the plea after defense and prosecution negotiations reached a stalemate, leaving the final sentencing decision entirely up to the judge.
During Thursday’s hearing, the state recommended a 45-year sentence, with 25 years in custody and the remainder on probation.
The rapper is also required to return to Atlanta multiple times a year to speak to children about anti-gang and anti-violence messages.
“I appreciate that you do realize how much of an impact you have on people,” Judge Whitaker told Thug in court. “It’s past your neighborhood. It’s worldwide. And having come up from where you came up from — and living in and around that — you know that gangs are damaging to our community… Even if you choose to continue to rap, you need to try to use your influence to let kids know that’s not the way to go.”
As part of his probation, Thug is barred from associating with suspected gang members or communicating with any alleged victims of his crimes. He is also required to submit to random drug tests and is prohibited from possessing a firearm. He is permitted to travel domestically and internationally for business, provided he complies with his probation terms.
