As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we at HelloBeautiful.com wanted to highlight some of the amazing women who inspire us everyday. We selected 25 women of different ages, across many fields who are currently making history as they strive fearlessly to achieve their greatest limits. While some of these ladies are at the beginning of their careers and some are seasoned veterans, we believe all of them are “women to know”.
Ester Dean
The FireworkKaty Perry, Rihanna, Usher, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Ciara, and R. Kelly can all thank Ester Dean for their chart topping success. The Oklahoma native’s song writing resume reads like a who’s who of music’s A-list. After relocating to Atlanta, Dean teamed up with producer Polow da Don, Zone4Inc., and Interscope Records. After years of singing on demos and being met with opposition to her raspy voice, in 2009, Ester released “Drop It Low,” featuring Chris Brown, which gave the singer her first Billboard Top 40 Hit on her own.
Briana Bigham
Bag Envy
Briana Bigham has always loved handbags. In fact, her cousin held an intervention after Bigham binged on several pairs of handbags in one outing. It is safe to say she knows her stuff and it comes as no surprise that when the time came for the fashion industry veteran to step out on her own, she would launch her own luxury handbag line B. Marie Style.
Becca Alexis
Purveyor of Style
Stylist to the stars, Becca Alexis founded her business Pulchritude and Concepts in 2007. Since she’s worked with Ne Yo, Trey Songz, Valerie Ortiz, Marlon Wayans, Janet Jackson, Dawn Richards, Mark Wahlberg, Katherine Heigl, Harper’s Bazaar, Essence, Ginuwine and Jamie Foxx just to name a few.
Nonhle Thema
The Globe Trotter
South African beauty Nonhle Thema is one of the biggest on-air personalities in her country, has a reality show, served as the Global Ambassador to Dark & Lovely, has started her own production company and rubs elbows with Virgin mogul Richard Branson as she works diligently to garner support for her own mentorship program with Nonhle’s Angels. One conversation with Thema and it’s clear she’s a woman on a Global mission.
Joan Smalls
A Head Above The Rest
Caribbean beauty Joan Smalls found success in her home country of Puerto Rico as the face of Estee Lauter before we got to know her as the rising star who is Gucci’s latest muse. Only a year into her career, she was hand picked by Ricardo Tisci to walk in the Givenchy Spring 2010 couture fashion show and was immediately thrown into the ranks of a coveted catwalker. Joan has walked for Oscar de la Renta, Brian Reyes, Catherine Malandrino, Jean Paul Gautier, Stella McCartney, Prada, Derek Lam, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Hermès. We’re keeping our eye out for this catwalking diva to be the true America’s Next Top Model.
