After we caught up with Rick Ross about that sex tape with the dirty “sheets,” he talked about his new video for “I’m Not A Star.” And since we were in Miami, we made you a photo gallery of pictures from the shoot.
“It’s definitely taking it back to the streets,” Ross said of the song. “When that record comes on, just the response from everybody that knows it, it’s one of their favorites. We wanted to bring it to life, that’s what the homie Spiff captured.”
“The concept of the video was really strong performance, showing Ross’ performance and him going in. It’s epic,” Spiff, also in D-Town, revealed today.
“It’s a studio shoot. We hit the studio and it was a set design. We’re showing exotics, the cars, the imagery. Birdman came through, Ross and Birdman are brothers so he came through, so did Khaled and showed the support.”
Spiff, who is also a A&R over at Ross’ Maybach Music Group, says the team was encouraged to make “I’m Not A Star” a video because of the overwhelming reaction at the live shows.
“The streets really fu—with it,” Spiff described. “Everybody fu—s with that song. When Ross performed it in New York, the Governor’s Island sh–, they knew it as if it was a single. The whole crowd knew the song. That’s one of my favorites. Then we was in a club for some Nike sh–. I’m watching Jay-Z do every word. Ross is performing it, Jay is in the cut. I’m like ‘damn, he knows every word.’ It’s crazy. After seeing everybody show love, we said we have to shoot the video for it.”
The next video Spiff will direct for Ross is “MC Hammer” and Hammer himself will be in that clip. In between the Spiff TV commissioned shorts for Ross, Ricky Rozay will drop “Aston Martin Music,” which he recently shot with Gil Green.
“The Aston Martin video was definitely some sh–,” Ross said. “Me, Drake, Birdman came out[with] Chrisette Michele. Just the setting, the locations, that really took the video over the top. We captured that beautiful side of Miami, that outdoors feeling. We did our thing. The performances most definitely was next level. I’m excited about that record and that video.”
Oh yeah, ‘we’re not a blog’ either.
