Legendary soul star Prince is set to kick off a 21-night concert series in Los Angeles next week.
The star announced the news on Thursday night (April 7) when he phoned in to US talk show Lopez Tonight. He told presenter George Lopez,
“I will be starting a 21-night stand next Thursday, the 14th, at the LA Forum with the New Power Generation and a whole gang of special guests. I’m gonna blast the roof off that place, I promise!”
Prince then asked if he could drop into Lopez’s studio to practice for the shows. He added,
“We need some place to rehearse though. Can we come over there next Wednesday?”
An overjoyed Lopez warmly obliged, but Prince had one condition:
“Whatever you do, don’t overdo the purple. Let us bring the purple. Everybody’s always doing those purple lights and whatnot, you know what I mean?”
Prince’s representative has since spoken out to clarify the singer’s comments, admitting not all shows will be played at The Forum. Further details are expected in the coming days.
Prince played a series of concerts in New York earlier this year, with a mini-residency at Madison Square Garden. He has also performed in North and South Carolina and in Oakland, California.
