Tink may not be a household name yet, but she’s already drawn comparisons to Lauryn Hill and was declared “a superstar” by her mentor Timbaland. Now the 19-year-old Chicago sensation commands the spotlight with her Timbaland-produced single “Ratchet Commandments.” Tink takes a page from Biggie’s “Ten Crack Commandments” and gives us the step-by-step manual to being ratchet. But don’t think she condones the behavior.

“I thought we had some young queens, what you mean / We act belligerent / Generation of ignorance / Bitches live for the ‘gram, so their life ain’t got no significance,” she raps.

She hopes to carve her own lane with her debut album, due this year on Mosley Music Group/Epic Records. 

“People overlook [female rappers] or they don’t take us as seriously as male artists,” she told V Magazine. “And I get it—so many female artists just try to be like Nicki Minaj. I think it’s breaking those layers and showing that there are different voices out there.”

Timbaland had high praise for his protégée, saying, 

“Her album is probably one of the best albums I did since [Aaliyah’s] One in a Million.”
