Is Lupe Fiasco hanging up the mic? The controversial rapper is thinking about throwing in the towel once he releases his next album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1.
He took to Twitter to make the announcement.
“This album will probably be my last,” tweeted Lupe. “Its been a pleasure to have all my fans provide so much love an inspiration for me and my family.”
While it’s unclear exactly what triggered his decision, he feels burned by the music industry.
“But my heart is broken and i see no comfort further along this path only more pain. I cannot participate any longer in this,” he said. “i have spoken peace only 2 receive vitriol and malice in return. My brother seeks destruction my sister seeks attention paths to nothingness.”
He plans to step away from the spotlight and focus on his other passion.
“My first true love was literature so i will return to that…lupe fiasco ends here…”
While he may see retirement in his future, he still owes Atlantic Records one more album. He was planning a sequel to his Great American Rap Album following the release of Food & Liquor II on September 25.
Before logging off Twitter, Lupe shared an unfinished version of his song “American Terrorist Pt. 2.” Listen below.
