Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri have a history of hits together, and now the dynamic duo is taking their business relationship to the next level. The So So Def mogul has signed on to become Mariah’s manager.
In a press release, Mariah’s reps described the relationship as a “merger.” JD will act as the pop diva’s manager, according to a congratulatory note on JD’s DJ management site SKAM Artist.
“A multi-talented artist of Mariah’s caliber should be doing everything imaginable. I’m sure others have said this but not the way I intend to do it. For me, it’s about the execution,” said JD, who produced hits including “We Belong Together” and “Always Be My Baby.”
Mariah added,
“We have a bond that surpasses music. I am super excited about our merger because we have so many innovative ideas that I know will come to fruition.”
JD received congratulatory messages from his friends including Da Brat and Bow Wow.
“Congrats to my pops @jermainedupri on taking on that big step w/ managing the legendary @MariahCarey,” tweeted Bow.
Mariah was previously managed by Jennifer Lopez’s current manager Benny Medina as well as “American Idol’s” Randy Jackson.
The iconic singer has been working on a new album, which has already spawned the Miguel-assisted hit “#Beautiful.” Mariah’s publicist, Cindi Berger, teased an upcoming announcement.
“I’ve never seen Mariah so passionate about what she will be revealing to her fans very, very soon,” said Berger.
