Well, at least one piece has fallen into place concerning the mystery of the upcoming sixth season of The Game. And Lord, what a piece it is…
TVLine announced this past Wednesday that The Game has cast Lauren London (This Christmas, ATL) in the series regular role of Kiera, a former child star (think Keisha Knight Pulliam from The Cosby Show) who is transitioning into more adult roles after being on a sitcom at the age of five. There is no word still on who will be her male counterpart Bryce “The Blueprint” Westbrook, and frankly I can’t think of anyone who could fill that role myself at this point. Maybe Diana Ross’s son Evan Ross of recent 90210 fame could get it, but that’s stretching it.
As for Lauren London being cast, I’m going to stay neutral on what she could bring to the role. She is a recognizable actress, though, to not only the BET audience, but an audience in general. London’s film roles, which range from being T.I.’s love interest in ATL to Hayden Panetierre’s bestie in I Love You, Beth Cooper, have made her a household name despite what some detractors might say. Plus, a household name is something BET could use to make The Game relevant next year. As for the casting of Bryce, besides Evan Ross, what do you guys think about Brandon T. Jackson or Robert Ri’chard? Or… does Bryce have to be black at all? Hmm..
Losing its biggest name could be a major blow to a sitcom that has been losing ratings steam since it moved to BET and Atlanta last year. Opening at a monstrous 7.7 million viewers in early 2011, “The Game” was pulling in around 2 to 2.5 million viewers in the second half of the most recent season.
The show is still seeking a male lead opposite London who will play an educated, all-star running back. Mowry (Melanie) played the wife of Derwin (Pooch Hall).
