Another black man has been shot and killed by police. According to KTLA, Ezell Ford, 24, was killed by an LAPD officer in the South Central neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The police were conducting a stop when an alleged altercation ensued. Witnesses say Ford was lying on the ground when he was shot in the back by the police.
Ford’s mother says the LAPD would not give her information on where he was being hospitalized. Since Ford’s death, the LAPD have released few details on the shooting.
Ford’s family says he suffered from mental disabilities.
Black men in America are not safe when it comes to police encounters. Ford is the fifth unarmed black man to be murdered by police in three weeks.
Jeremy Lake was killed by two married, white police officers who were upset that he was dating their daughter; John Crawford was killed in Walmart while holding a toy gun in Dayton, Ohio; Mike Brown was shot in Ferguson, Missouri, while surrendering to police; and Eric Garner was choked and killed by NYPD.
