Although Kanye West returned with a riveting solo performance of his new hit “Power” at the 2010 BET Awards Sunday night. It seems West should have stayed out of the spotlight just a little while longer.

A new lawsuit has been filed in U.S. District Court in Illinois, against the grammy-award winning rapper. The lawsuit claims that West’s 2007 hit song “Stronger” copies certain lyrics from a 2006 song by a Virginia rapper known as Vince P.

The lawsuit goes on to state that West’s version “copies significant and important parts of Peters’ lyrics identically or almost identically,” including the “hook” which is a major element of the song.

Peters describes in detail how he wrote and recorded the song in Chicago, and then meet John Monopoly [Kanye West’s manager] through his assistant at the time Tiffany Hardin. A reported meeting between Peters and Monopoly took place on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Monopoly’s residence in Chicago.

Then approximately seven-months after that meeting at which copies of Peters version of the song were handed to John Monopoly, Kanye West released his version of “Stronger”.
