Congratulations to the Wests!
Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian welcomed their third child, a healthy baby girl, via surrogate on Monday (Jan. 15) at 12:47 a.m.
“Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl,” Kim wrote in a letter on her website. “We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister.”
It is unclear whether the baby, who weighed 7lbs, 6oz at birth, was born in San Diego, where the surrogate reportedly lives, or at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, where Kim gave birth to their first two children, North and Saint.
The Wests reportedly used a surrogate because Kim suffers from a medical condition known as placenta accreta, which would have made a third pregnancy dangerous and potentially life-threatening.
“After talking to Kanye, I think I always knew that surrogacy was an option, but I didn’t think it was that realistic of an option, and now I feel like that’s my reality,” she said during an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” “I feel like surrogacy really is the only other option for me.”
The baby’s name has not yet been revealed.
