Ms. Jackson is back.
Just months after delivering the gift of life to her son, Eissa, Janet Jackson kicked off her “State of the World Tour” with a bang on Thursday (Sept. 7) at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Showing off her stunning post-baby body, the pop icon ran through her beloved discography, hitting classics like “Nasty,” “Control,” and “Pleasure Principal” with dance moves fans have clamored over for decades.
But Jackson made a point to keep her set up to date, performing songs off her latest album, 2015’s Unbreakable, such as “No Sleeep” and “Dammn Baby.”
Plus, Jackson even mixed in Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” instrumental into a remix of “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” adding another modern twist into a standout opening night moment.
Janet showed a confident energy throughout the show.
“You know I came to snatch a couple of wigs,” she said at one point. Sharing a video of the moment, Missy Elliott offered rave reviews. “Yup,” she wrote. “@JanetJackson said what y’all thought she was playing? this what she do! Snatch edges for a living.”
This marks a major return for Jackson, who previously postponed her “Unbreakable World Tour” to start a family with her then husband Wissam Al Mana. Shortly after welcoming their son Eissa, the couple ended their marriage. The “State of the World Tour” continues across North America through Dec. 17.
