The cast of “Empire” brought the TV screen to the stage at the BET Awards. After a mock dialogue between Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross—portraying Lucious and Cookie—the real Lucious Lyon (aka Terrence Howard) introduced the “Empire” cast, who delivered a medley of hits from Fox’s hit show.
Jussie Smollett and Yazz warmed up the crowd with “No Apologies,” followed by the viral hit “Drip Drop” featuring Yazz and Serayah McNeill. A surprise appearance from Juicy J brought the performance to a climax, as Jussie and Yazz returned for “You’re So Beautiful.”
Hitting all the right notes, Jussie paused for an important message regarding the world today, sealing his sentiment with “No one is free until we are all free.” The crowd was still on its feet as Jussie exited with another poignant statement: “Stand for love.”
