New Edition: The Movie has found its new additions. BET has revealed the cast for its upcoming biopic based on the iconic R&B boy band.
Two actors, a child and an adult, will portray the singers in the three-part miniseries. “Empire’s” Bryshere Y. Gray will play Michael Bivins as an adult, while Dante Hoagland will handle the child duties.
Elsewhere, Ricky Bell will be played by Elijah Kelley (“The Wiz Live!”) and child actor Caleb McLaughlin. Ralph Tresvant will be portrayed by newcomers Algee Smith and Jahi Winston (child). Ronnie DeVoe will be played by Straight Outta Compton’s Keith Powers and child actor Myles Truitt. Meanwhile, Woody McClain and child actor Tyler Williams will take on the role of Bobby Brown.
Johnny Gill will only be played by one person, Luke James. Gill was introduced as a group member in the late ’80s.
Chris Robinson (ATL) will direct the miniseries, which was written by Abdul Williams. Principal photography is set to start in Los Angeles next month.
New Edition: The Movie is slated to premiere in 2017 on BET.
