A Star Is Born has lost its lead star. Beyoncé has pulled out of Clint Eastwood’s remake of the Judy Garland classic.
The 31-year-old singer was set to reprise Barbra Streisand’s role in the 1976 version as the young starlet who falls in love with an older established star. Warner Bros. had no comment, but sources tell Variety that Beyoncé’s schedule was full and that without a set start date, she would not be able to commit.
This is the latest setback for the project. Production was previously delayed due to Beyoncé’s pregnancy and Eastwood took on a starring role in Trouble With the Curve during the downtime.
With Beyoncé out of the picture, Eastwood has shown interest in jazz musician Esperanza Spalding. Meanwhile, the male lead is still up in the air, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, and Bradley Cooper all once considered for the role.
