Lil’ Kim wasn’t the only rap queen who blessed the stage at Power 105.1′s Powerhouse at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Saturday. Following her appearance in Philly, Nicki Minaj surprised the crowd during Meek Mill’s set. She joined the MMG MC for his Dreamchasers 3 cuts “Dope Dealer” and “I B On Dat” with Fabolous, and performed her verses on “I Wanna Be With You,” “Tapout,” and “Love More.”
She caught up with “The Breakfast Club” hosts Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy backstage, where she spoke about her scandalous Halloween costume.
“I’ve just been feeling a lot freer,” said Nicki of her decision to show it all off on Instagram. “If you feeling yourself, you might just want to show the world.”
But the sexy cop costume wasn’t her first choice. She was planning to be a cheetah with a painted face, but her stylist wasn’t able to come through in time.
“I was like, let me get any old thing and that was the any old thing,” she said.
Nicki is back in the studio working on her third album, due in 2014.
“The features are just the appetizer for the album,” she said. “It’s very different from anything I’ve done, which I’m surprised about. I’m not feeling like, ‘Oh, I did this.’ I’m feeling this is next level.”
They also asked her about her exclusion from Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse.
“I’m probably in the top 5 ni**as he did mention, so go and do your motherfu**ing research,” she said. “But I also feel like maybe he’s one of those respectful gentlemen that probably wanted to feel like, ‘Oh, I don’t want to say a female’s name.’ Or maybe he just don’t think the kid is ill, but the kid know the kid is ill.”
She did her own bragging.
“I’m the queen of New York, I’m the king of New York,”
she declared, while backing up her claims with platinum albums.
“When you got an album that go No. 1 in Japan and in the U.K. and Australia and America at the same motherfu**ing time and Canada, then you can speak my motherfu**ing name.”
