Kanye West’s epic interview with Zane Lowe continues. In part three of his sit-down with the BBC Radio host, the hip-hop megastar speaks about being a futurist, Kim Kardashian’s impact on his life, comparisons to Jay Z, and his passion for fashion, with plenty more quotables. Read highlights and watch the full interview below.
On his music: “Go listen to all my music. It’s codes of self-esteem. It’s the code of who you are. If you’re not a Kanye West fan, you’re not a fan of me, you’re a fan of yourself.”
On Kim Kardashian: “She gave me everything. She gave me a family. She gave me a support system. She was in a powerful enough situation where she could love me without asking me for money, which is really hard for me to find.”
On the “Watch the Throne” tour: “When Jay told me he wanted to do the ‘Watch the Throne’ tour, he didn’t want to use dancers of course. … It’s about whatever I want to make it about. It’s my world.”
On Jay Z: “Jay is more realized than me, meaning more of his dreams and hopes and aspirations have come true. And hopefully, God willing, by the time I’m his age, that thing will happen for me also and I’ll be in a more zenned-out place.”
On Rick Rubin: “I couldn’t have done [Yeezus] without Rick Rubin. I had to have a zen master come in and say, ‘OK, this is just what we’re gonna do.’”
On why he’s frustrated: “I’ve got so much I wanna give. I’ve got ideas on color palettes, I’ve got ideas on silhouettes and I’ve got a million people telling me why I can’t do it.
On fashion: “No flip flops for black dudes. I don’t care where you at. Wear some hot ass Jordans on the beach.”
The interview made so much noise that “Jimmy Kimmel Live” even did a reenactment with children. Check out the real interview and the hilarious parody below.
